Meet Alexandra Sutton: The Food App's Resident Nutritionist

Alexandra Sutton (ANutr) is the nutritionist behind The Food App's UK content, partnerships and editorial work.

Last updated 19 May 2026

Alex is a UK Associate Nutritionist registered with the Association for Nutrition (AfN) and holds a Master's degree in Global Public Health Nutrition (distinction).

Her work sits at the intersection of academic nutrition science and public communication – she contributes to leading research projects in the field, and runs her own nutrition channel under the name @thenutritiongirl, where she translates evidence-based nutrition into practical guidance.

Editorial independence

Alex's work for The Food App is built on a clear principle: her professional judgement comes first. She retains full editorial independence on all press, media and research-related work, and has the right to decline any task or position that conflicts with her professional standards or personal views as a nutritionist.

When Alex speaks to the media on behalf of The Food App, what you hear is her own expert view – not a script. A nutritionist whose name is on a story needs to be evidence-based, and we want our public communication to reflect that.

What enquiries she's available for

Alex is The Food App's spokesperson in the UK and our lead voice on nutrition, ultra-processed foods and food classification. She authors editorial and research pieces for thefood.app, advises on how established nutritional standards – including NOVANutri-Score – are presented within the app, and represents The Food App in collaborations with UK partners, NGOs and journalists.

She is available for:

  • Media enquiries and expert commentary on ultra-processed foods, food labelling, the UK food supply, and food-scanning apps
  • Editorial collaborations with NGOs, charities and research organisations
  • Speaking engagements and events in the UK

Why Alex chose The Food App

Alex was clear with us from the start: she would not work with an app that imposes its own proprietary health score on top of established nutritional science. The Food App was built on the opposite principle – we surface independently published frameworks like NOVA and Nutri-Score directly, and let users choose between them. The science stays transparent and independently verifiable.

In her own words:

"As a Registered Associate Nutritionist, I could not in good conscience work with an app that scores food through an undisclosed algorithm. That's why I chose The Food App – it uses NOVA and Nutri-Score directly, with no proprietary layer.”

About The Food App

The Food App (thefood.app) is a UK food transparency app that helps people understand what's in their food. Users scan a product or search our database of tens of thousands of UK food items, and see the product evaluated against established nutritional standards – including NOVA classification and Nutri-Score – rather than a single proprietary score. The Food App is operated by Beneficial Apps AS, which also runs Trygg Mat in the Norwegian market.
